And the inviting, high tech look of Eyetique's flagship location; alive with color and excitement, is reinvented at each store.
Eyeglass frames served as an architectural inspiration. "There's something very tectonic about them, the engineering of them, that I wanted to incorporate into the stores, "explained Alan Dunn, president of Pittsburgh based Alan Dunn & Associates, Inc. "We were trying to create a direct link between the visual environment and the notion of eyewear in general."
Dunn said he wanted to create "as hip and stylish an environment as possible, commensurate with the quality of the product Eyetique has to offer." The flooring and color-scheme, the lighting and display fixtures, all help contribute to a uniquely Eyetique ambiance.
He also "played around with wood and a solid linoleum floor that's almost simulated wood and tried to incorporate neon lighting, which is a signature of all the stores. We also tried to experiment with color as well. The Wilkins Township store makes use of a lot of green neon and old colors, such as deep golds."
Adorning the walls at Squirrel Hill and all the stores are murals by noted Pittsburgh artist Burton Morris. Soft neon is used to accent displays and enhance the customer experience.
Eyetique President Norman Childs praised Dunn for his innovative approach. Dunn was the right man for the job because "I like the way he thinks and he understands my way of thinking," said Norman.
"We've really had fun over the years inventing the look of the Eyetique stores because each of them is really attractive and individual from the others," added Dunn. The designs "have distinguished him from other eyewear stores in the area. That, combined with his marketing genius, has contributed to the success Eyetique has enjoyed to date."
"The common denominator for all of them is contemporary, visually exciting and colorful environments with highly creative means of displaying the eyewear."
