Wexford
The stores's melding of man and building is dramatically illustrated by the repetitive pattern of the dual-arched ceiling panels. The ceiling is modeled after the shape of the optic nerve. The design creates a sense of thythm, movement and spaciousness, leading the eye to pop-art murals y Pittsburgh artist Burton Morris, found at the rear of the store.
Display cases and the other fixturing all possess a translucent quality.
A soft glow illuminates the interior, produced by indirect fluorescent lights and the red, green and yellow neon that travels the lenght of the store. "We used neon as almost a sculpture," said Dunn.
The playful interaction of light, optics and environment produce a truly stimulating three-dimensional experience. Dunn said the overall effect is meant to impart "an intrigue of wanting to explore the space."
"The common denominator for all of them is contemporary, visually exciting and colorful environments with highly creative means of displaying the eyewear."
